New Year 2011 – 2012

We have just about recovered from our three nights of partying at Tyndrum. Both the local hotel and the hostel have been taken over by new owners and big improvements have been made. The Tyndrum Lodge was very welcoming, the food was very good and we had a great time at the Hogmanay Bash.  The By The Way Hostel has had new toilets and showers installed which made our stay almost perfect.

As always the catering committee did a superb job with three course meals on New Year’s Day and on Jan 2nd as well as providing soup, mince pies, mulled wine and lots of nibbles to keep us going.  The decorating committee also did a great job – maybe we shouldn’t say too much about the ‘strange male’ guest who turned up !!!

As always everyone put lots of effort into their dress – posh frocks and black ties for our ‘dressy’ night and OTT outfits for Bad Taste night.  Where on earth did everyone get these clothes – out of their wardrobes perhaps.

We had all weathers and two good walks.  Jan 1st started off very wet but dried up later on. We walked behind the hostel up to the new gold mine – unfortunately none of us found any gold. Then back to the hostel via The West Highland Way. On Jan 2nd we woke up to about 10 cms of snow. So naturally it was building snowmen and having snowball fights. We attempted to take the cars up towards Bridge of Orchy but were tunred back by the police. In the end we walked part of The West Highland Way from Tyndrum towards Bridge of Orchy in almost white out conditions then back to the pub for a well earned pint and a bowl of chips.

Weekends next year

The Islay and Invergarry weekends are now fully booked. If you wish to join us then
